Network Drive Backup

Remote Data Backups now offers mapped drive versions of its popular software. This valuable feature allows you to back up data from any other computer on your local area network.

You can even back up computers that run on operating systems other than Windows -- such as Apple-Macintosh, Linux, Unix, AS400, Novell -- as long as the PC running the backup software is on a Windows OS. You won't find a better multiple-OS backup solution or price. Download a free 30-Day Trial below and see for yourself.

How do I map a drive?

  1. Open My Network Places, and find the network resource you want to map a drive to. For Example, Server1/C.
  2. Right-click the resource (in the example above, the C:/ directory), and choose "Map Network Drive..." from the small menu that appears.
  3. Choose the letter that you want to use for the drive (in the drop-down menu next to the word "Drive:", and click "Finish"
  4. That's it! Now, you can access the network resource by opening My Computer, and then opening the drive letter used in the previous step.

How do I back up a mapped drive?

  1. During installation, be sure to assign the Agent Service Account to an account with administrative rights. (By default, the software assigns it to LOCAL SYSTEM). Click the "Change" button, then locate an administrator's account, or create a new one:
    • Click Start / Settings / Control Panel / User Accounts, then "Create New Account". Enter "RDB" and click "Next". Select "Computer Administrator" and click "Create Account". From the RDB software's setup screen, click "Change" and select "RDB".
  2. If you set up the software without performing Step 1, you won't be able to see your network drives. Click here for instructions on setting the service to run on an administrator account.
  3. If you are using the Mapped Drive version, you can access the "Network Drives" dialog box during registration or by selecting Advanced Rules, Drives from the Options menu in Backup View. It displays the hard drives and network drives available on your system. By default, all hard drives are selected and all network drives are excluded from backup.
  4. A drive that is excluded from backup through this dialog will not be scanned during the backup process and will not appear in the backup window. An "X" appears to the left of drives to be excluded from the backup. Double-click on any drive in the list to reverse its current state.

Warning: Be sure your network drives remain intact.
